Fresh off a 29-win season and with a freshman class of 12, the Davidson baseball team opens fall practice Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The fall session will include scrimmages against N.C. Central and Wake Forest and the Wildcat World Series on Parents Weekend Oct. 26-27.
"I love the start of fall practice," said Davidson coach Rucker Taylor, entering his second season at the helm. "It's one of my favorite times of the year. We've seen a great energy being put in already by the guys during skill work. The newcomers have done an exceptional job of coming in and putting in effort, and the returners have been wonderful in welcoming them."
Davidson returns six regulars from its lineup, including senior infielder Brett Centracchio, the last remaining starter from the 2017 NCAA Super Regional team. Senior second baseman Matt Frey is coming off a breakout junior campaign that included a 41-game reached-base streak. And junior designated hitter Ruben Fontes led the Atlantic 10 with 14 home runs in 2019.
Right-handed pitcher Gabe Levy, now a sophomore, returns after posting a 2.57 ERA with a 3-1 record and 11 saves in his debut.
The newcomers include six players from North Carolina, two from California and one each from Georgia, Pennsylvania, Texas and Hawaii.
All fall practices, generally set for 4 p.m., and scrimmages are open to the public.
