NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Entering its sixth year in the Atlantic 10, Davidson learned Thursday its league opponent dates as the conference released all the dates for the 14-team conference.
With the release of the league dates, the Wildcats' 2019-20 schedule is set after they announced their non-conference schedule in June.
"I am thrilled with our A-10 conference schedule," said head coach Gayle Fulks, who enters her third season. "The opportunity to play in a nationally-televised game this year is something that our entire program is excited about. We are looking to pack Belk Arena this season and having five weekend home games is a great thing for our fans! We can't wait to get the season started!"
Davidson, which went 10-6 a year ago in A-10 play and finished fourth in the standings, will face each of the 13 conference opponents during the 16-game schedule that features eight home and eight away games. A-10 play begins for the Wildcats Jan. 4 on the road at Saint Louis, which went 15-16 overall last year.
Three of the next four games will be inside Belk Arena, starting with an Education Day game against Fordham, Jan. 8. The Rams (25-9) won the conference championship title last year, their second title in the past six years. In addition, the Wildcats will host Rhode Island (Jan. 12) and George Washington (Jan. 18), with the game vs. the Rams being showcased on national television on NBC Sports Network.
Davidson will play at George Mason, Jan. 15, in between the Rhode Island and GW games.
Road games at Richmond and a rematch vs. Rhody, Jan. 26 & Jan. 29, close out the month of January. The 'Cats will then host back-to-back games against UMass (Feb. 2) and Dayton (Feb. 5) before going on the road again for two straight games at St. Bonaventure (Feb. 9) and Fordham (Feb. 13). The Wildcats defeated the Bonnies in the first round of the A-10 Championship.
Home games vs. Duquesne (19-13 last year) and Saint Joseph's are set for the middle of February on the 16th and 19th.
Rounding out the 16-game schedule will be two road games at UMass and La Salle, Feb. 22 & 26, followed by a matchup at home against VCU to close out the schedule. It'll be the fifth straight year the Wildcats wrap up the regular season against the Rams, who reached the championship game of the A-10 Tournament and went 24-10 last year.
The 2020 A-10 Championship will be hosted by Dayton, March 6-8 with the first round being held on Tuesday, March 3 at on-campus sites. The first-round games as well the championship quarterfinals will be available live on ESPN+, the leading direct-to-consumer sports streaming service, while the semifinals games will air on CBS Sports Network. ESPNU will air the A-10 championship final, the 23rd straight year an ESPN network has televised the league's title game.
All regular-season conference games will be streamed through ESPN+, except for nationally televised games. In addition, games will be streamed through the A-10 for International watchers.
During the 2018-19 season, the A-10 Conference had four women's basketball teams qualify for postseason play. Fordham defeated top-seeded VCU in the 2019 Championship final at the A.J. Palumbo Center at Duquesne University, earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Both VCU and Dayton received bids to the Women's National Invitational Tournament, with VCU advancing to the second round, while Davidson participated in the Women's Basketball Invitational.
