ORLANDO, Fla. – In addition to firing a bogey-free 68 to grab the individual lead, Jack Lang's birdie on the 18th hole put Davidson atop the team standings, following day one of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship.
The three-day/54-hole event is being played on the Par 72, 7,024-yard Grand Cypress Golf Club layout. Play was suspended early in the round for nearly two hours due to thunderstorms in the area.
Ranked 78th in the latest Golfstat National Rankings, Davidson shot a 297 (+9) and will enter tomorrow's second round one clear of VCU and Saint Joseph's. The three schools will be paired in Saturday's final groups beginning at 9:45 a.m. off the first tee.
Despite extremely windy conditions, Lang was one of just two golfers to a post sub-par score Friday. The 2017 A-10 Individual Medalist leads the Hawks' Wills Montgomery (-1) by three strokes.
A two-time NCAA Regional participant (2017 Individual / 2018 Team), Lang entered his final A-10 Championship as the nation's 74th ranked golfer according to Golfstat.
After making the turn at three-over, sophomore Alex Ross battled back with a 35 on his inward nine to post a 74, which puts him in a tie for eighth.
Hoke Carlton also sits inside the Top-20 for the Wildcats following a steady four-over 76.
Freshmen Viraj Garewal (79) and Clayton Tribus (81) are also in the Davidson lineup this weekend.
Live scoring will be available each day at Golfstat.com. For more information about the 2019 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship visit Atlantic10.com.
