PINEHURST, N.C. – Freshman Clayton Tribus fired a personal-best four-under 67 and Davidson shot 285 (+1) to lead after the first round of the 2019 Pinehurst Intercollegiate Friday.

The three-day/54-hole event is being play on the Par 71, 6,937-yard Pinehurst No. 8 layout. Round two will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

A freshman from Madison, Wisc., Tribus finished his opening round with five birdies and leads the 87-player field by three strokes over Florida Gulf Coast's Tate Heintzelman.

Davidson, which has six players (one individual) currently inside the Top-20, holds a nine-shot advantage over Radford.

Alex Ross (T-5th), the 2018 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, posted a 72 and is one ahead of teammates Jack Lang (73) and Viraj Garewal (73), who are tied for 11th.

Coming off an 11th place showing at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate, Hoke Carlton is currently tied for 18th following a 74.

Will Simmons (74/T-18), Mike Blasey (78), Kevin Carlock (80), Cole Walter (80) and Michael Freeman (83) are competing as individuals for the Wildcats.
