NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the second time this season, sophomore Camden Mazzoni was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from March 4-10, as announced by the league office today.
It is the fifth weekly award for Davidson this season and the second player of the week winner, both won by Mazzoni. Sam Kavarana (twice) and Brooks Green have also won the A-10 Rookie of the Week award this year.
Mazzoni helped the Wildcats win a pair of matches in Florida last week against Florida Southern (W, 7-0) and Bethune-Cookman (W, 4-3) by going 3-0 in singles and doubles. He rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win vs. Florida Southern at No. 4 to start the week. The sophomore then sealed up the win vs. Bethune-Cookman by winning the match point on a three-set victory at No. 3 with a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 decision.
With his pair of singles wins, Mazzoni pushed his win streak to three straight and bumped his overall record to 9-2 on the season.
The East Dennis, Mass., native teamed up with Douglas MacIntosh in doubles to net a 6-3 victory at No. 2 vs. Florida Southern. The win pushed the duo's win streak to three in a row and gave them team-best 8-4 record on the season.
Winners of three consecutive matches, Davidson (10-3) hosts Elon Wednesday, March 13, and then plays George Mason Sunday, March 17, for an A-10 match.
