
Men's Track & Field Open Day One of A-10 Indoors

FAIRFAX, Va. – Senior Jacob Hostetler posted the fastest 400-meter preliminary time of the day as men's track and field opened day one of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship Saturday at George Mason Field House.
Hostetler claimed first in the opening 400m heat of the day, stopping the clock in 49.08 seconds. His time held up as the quickest of the day as he heads to Sunday's finals as the man to beat. He will also compete in the 200-meter dash final after posting a prelim time of 22.16 seconds Saturday.
Also securing a spot in Sunday's final will be sophomore sprinter Miles Hollimon in the 60-meter dash. Hollimon crossed the line in 7.10 seconds, tied with two others, but the 'Cat advanced after the finish was broken down to the thousandth of a second.
The Davidson middle distance unit will send a pair of athletes to the finals. Sophomore Daniel Alvarez was the fifth fastest in the 1000-meters with a time of 2:29.51, while freshman Max Higgins advanced in the half mile with a time of 1:57.52.
Senior Sean Caveney placed fourth in his heat of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50 seconds. Classmate Dylan Carmack took seventh in the 5K with a time of 15:02 and will compete in the 3k Sunday.
Freshman Bryce Kalsu was top 10 in a loaded 500-meter field, stopping the clock in 1:06.61, narrowly missing out on the championship finals. Sophomore Taylor Drake also ran well, stopping the clock in 1:07.72.
The Wildcats ended the day with a fifth place effort in the distance medley relay. The team of Caveney, Kalsu, Rapahel Oettl and Max Pearson stopped the clock in 10:14.35.
Davidson returns to the field house, tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 24 for the final day of the championship. First event is slated to start at 9 a.m.
