The Davidson swimming teams will travel west to Boiling Springs Saturday for a 1 p.m. non-conference meet with Gardner-Webb.
It's the final regular season meet on the schedule before the Wildcats begin final preparations for the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, which are set for Feb. 20-23 in Geneva, Ohio.
"We're still working through some roster decisions for A-10s," said Davidson coach John Young. "Saturday's competition is our last chance to gather information in a meet setting, making it an important day for our A-10 effort in a few weeks. Within a month of our championship, I anticipate our athletes competing with a fair amount of confidence."
The Wildcats last swam on Jan. 19 at home against William & Mary. Sarah Helen Shepherd won two events that day, including the 200-yard breaststroke in which she swam a personal-best 2:22.16. She also won the 400 individual medley (4:30.43). Isabella McElrath added a win in the 200 butterfly (2:07.47), while Thacher Scannell led the Davidson men with a win the 500 freestyle (4:36.85).
Scannell, a four-time A-10 Rookie of the Week honoree, also finished second in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:32.33 to climb into third on the program's all-time performers list in the event.
Now, with one meet to swim before conference, the Wildcats are eager to springboard from their previous success into more.
"I hope we respond to the challenge with the same energy and enthusiasm we demonstrated last time out," said Young. "Obviously we're on the road in a few weeks, so we hope to see a strong road performance this weekend."
