Davidson Earns 8th Seed; Travels to Rhode Island for A-10 Quarters

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Coming off their best performance of the 2019 campaign, a 5-0 blanking of Duquesne, the Davidson men's soccer team will be the eighth seed in the Atlantic Tournament and play at top-seeded Rhode Island in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 9.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Rhode Island men's soccer won the Atlantic 10 Conference regular season title and will be the top seed for the upcoming A-10 Men's Soccer Championship. The championship begins with the quarterfinals at home campus sites Nov. 9-10. The semifinals and final will be played at Fordham's Jack Coffey Field Nov. 15 & 17. All games will be streamed through ESPN+.
The defending A-10 champion, the Rams finished with a league record of 7-1 for 21 points and an overall mark of 11-3-2. Led by Filippo Tamburini (4 goals, 2 assists), Edvin Akselsen (2 goals, 5 assists) and Stavros Zarokostas (3 goals, 3 assists), Rhody is ranked 27th by College Soccer News and receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
Rhode Island will host eighth-seeded Davidson, which finished the season at 3-5 in league play for nine points and had an 8-8-1 overall record. That first quarterfinal will be played at Rhode Island Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7:00 pm ET.
VCU is seeded second after finishing the regular season with 19 points and a 6-1-1 record. Led by Biska Biyombo (5 goals, 4 assists), the Richmond-based Rams were 7-7-2 overall and will host seventh-seeded George Mason, which finished with nine points and a 3-5 record in conference. The Patriots were 4-12-1 overall and will travel to Richmond for a Saturday, Nov. 9, 7:00 pm ET quarterfinal matchup with VCU.
Dayton and Saint Louis both finished with 18 points at 6-2 overall, and Dayton won the head-to-head tiebreaker, so the Flyers will be seeded third and the Billikens are fourth. Dayton, which was 11-7 overall, will host No. 6 La Salle at 1:00 pm ET on Sunday. The Explorers were 4-4 in league play for 12 points, and were 8-8-1 overall. Saint Louis will host No. 5 Fordham Saturday at 2:00 pm CT/3:00 pm ET. Fordham finished with 16 points, a 5-2-1 league mark and a 6-10-2 overall record.
George Mason and Davidson qualified for the championships and were seeded No. 7 and No. 8 respectively by virtue of the league's multi-team tiebreaker. Both teams finished as part of a five-way tie with Duquesne, George Washington and Massachusetts.
The Rhode Island/Davidson winner will face the Saint Louis/Fordham winner in the first semifinal at 1:00 pm ET. The VCU/George Mason winner plays the Dayton/La Salle winner in the second semifinal at 4:00 pm ET. Both semifinals will be played on Friday, Nov. 15. The championship final, which will determine the winner of the A-10's automatic NCAA bid, will be played at noon ET on Sunday, Nov. 17.
