TOWSON, Md. — The Davidson field hockey team built a lead and held onto it Sunday in a 3-2 non-conference victory at Towson.
It's the second win of the season for a team first-year coach Zoe Almquist has seen put in the daily work to be successful and also come close to victory on numerous other occasions.
"Today's game was a full team effort, and that makes the win taste that much sweeter," said Almquist. "It was so exciting to see us step up in so many areas — two open-field goals from freshmen, going 1-for-2 on attack corners, stellar corner defense. These were all parts of our game we have been working on. It was great to see all of it come together."
Goals by freshmen Emma Coleman and Anna Sharp in a six-minute span around the intermission gave the Wildcats a 3-1 lead. Towson added a goal with 2:50 left, but the Wildcats closed out the victory.
"We showed some good composure and game management down the stretch," said Almquist.
Davidson's first goal came off a corner, input by McGee Roman. Amy Worscheh and Roman got the last touches on the ball as it went in the cage at the 8:01 mark.
Up Next
Davidson will play its next two at home next weekend, beginning with a game against A-10 foe UMass on Friday, Oct. 11 at 5:15 p.m. A non-conference game with William & Mary follows at noon on Oct. 13.
