Field Hockey Comes Up Short at VCU

RICHMOND, Va. — McGee Roman's goal in the 32nd minute pulled the Davidson field hockey team even with VCU Friday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as the Rams responded with two more goals to post a 3-1 win in Atlantic 10 play.
Roman's third goal of the season came off a penalty corner early in the third quarter. Roman input the ball on the play, then found herself in front of the cage to finish in traffic.
VCU responded with a goal by Maite Sturm seven minutes later, and she added another goal late in the 43rd minute to put the Rams out front for good.
Svea Sturm gave VCU an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the ninth minute.
Davidson held a 7-6 advantage in penalty corners, and goalie Sarah Zeszotarski tallied seven saves.

Davidson visits Towson Sunday at 2 p.m. in a non-conference contest.
