DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson begins its 2019-20 women's basketball season with its home opener, hosting Georgetown Tuesday night inside John M. Belk Arena at. 7 p.m. The Wildcats (17-15, 10-6 A-10 last year) are opening their season at home for the second straight season after downing Queens last year in a 80-47 victory.

•Playing in its first postseason game since 2013, Davidson fought to the last second before seeing its season end, 67-64, against Marshall in the first round of the Women's Basketball Invitational.
•Davidson kept within striking distance the whole second half and grabbed its only lead, 64-63, on a
Justine Lyon putback with 38 seconds to go. But it was quickly answered by Marshall with a driving layup from Taylor Pearson at 34 seconds. The Herd went on to add two more free throws and Lyon's last-second three-point attempt rimmed out at the buzzer.
•Lyon scored 11 points and hauled in seven rebounds to go with two assists, while Cassidy Gould added a team-best 16 points to go with eight rebounds. Sarah Donovan pulled in 15 rebounds (seven on offense) and had seven points. Katie Turner finished with eight points, six assists and three steals.
A-10 NOTES ...
•Last year, Davidson led the A-10 in points (2,112), points per game (66.0), offensive rebounds per game (13.9), and field goals made and attempted per game (24.2/62.7), while ranking second in three-pointers made and
attempted per game (6.8/22.3).
•Sarah Donovan's outstanding sophomore season a year ago saw her rank tops in total rebounds and rebounds per game (293/9.2 rpg), while finishing third field goals made (170).
•Katie Turner was second last year in the assist department with a career-best 138 (4.3 per game) and was second in assist to turnover ratio (2.0).

•Davidson was picked fifth in this year's preseason poll by the league's coaches after tying for fourth place a year ago with a 10-6 record.
•For the fourth year in a row, the Wildcats put at least one player on the preseason all-conference teams as the junior duo Sarah Donovan and Katie Turner garnered preseason honors. Donovan was named to the all-first team and Turner earned a spot on the all-second team.

•Davidson is 19-19 all-time in home openers (9-4 the last 13 years) and has gone 12-28 overall in season openers during its 40-year history.

•The Wildcats' 10 A-10 wins were a program best and the most league wins since 11 in 2013-14.
•Davidson had three players earn A-10 postseason honors last year: Sarah Donovan was named the league's Most Improved Player of the Year and earned a spot on the A-10 All-Second Team, while Justine Lyon was named the A-10 Sixth Woman of the Year as well as All-Third
