DAVIDSON — The Davidson swimming and diving teams return to action this weekend when they host Georgetown Saturday at noon in Cannon Pool.
It's one of two home meets this season featuring both the men's and women's teams. The Davidson men hosted Queens on Sept. 28, and both Wildcat teams will welcome Gardner-Webb on Friday, Jan. 31.
LAST TIME OUT
Davidson competed in the Richmond Duals last weekend, which produced a number of notable performances.
The Wildcat women won a total of 15 events, including multiple from freshman Shelby Stanley (see below), and emerged with a team victory over George Mason as well as one of their best recent performances against perennial Atlantic 10 contender Richmond.
Sarah Helen Shepherd won the 200 IM and 200 backstroke against George Mason and the 100 breaststroke against Richmond, while Siena Senn won the 500 free against both the Patriots and Spiders and also the 200 free against Mason. Hannah Gould (200 breaststroke) and Julia Goodhead (100 back) also posted wins against the Patriots, and Chelsea Savage touched the wall first in the 1,650 free against Richmond.
The Wildcat women won the 200 medley relay against Mason and the 400 medley relay against Richmond.
Diver Daniel Valmassei led the Davidson men with multiple wins over the two-day dual with Mason.
TOP ROOKIE
Stanley was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, based on her performance in Richmond, which included six wins in two days.
The freshman from Roanoke, Va., swept the 100- and 200- yard butterfly events against both Mason and Richmond and also swam on the victorious 200 and 400 medley relays.
Stanley's butterfly times against Richmond are the best among A-10 freshmen this year. She swam the 200 fly in 2:05.53, which ranks second among all league swimmers. Her 100 fly time of 56.87 is third in all of the A-10.
