PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – With time ticking down before the end of regulation, La Salle's Maci Bower scored the game-winner at the 89:01 mark and Davidson dropped another tough close down the wire game, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in Atlantic 10 women's soccer at McCarthy Stadium.
The Wildcats (8-7-2, 3-4-1 A-10), who were looking to force overtime for the sixth time this year, also fell by the same score at UMass Thursday after another late goal by the Minutewomen. The Explorers moved to 9-6-1 overall and 5-3 in A-10 games.
Comments from head coach Adam Denton
"Really tough loss for us today on the road at La Salle. We played more than well enough to get something from the game today. La Salle is a tough team play, in tough conditions and we did very well. To concede in the manor we did, at the time we did, really made it a tough loss. We have two games to go and still have everything to play for. We have a final home game vs. VCU and then a final game at Fordham. We have to still believe that we can perform like we have all season and then get the points from those games to keep pace in the standings."\
Quick Hits From the Game:
•Bower scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season on the game-winner and Naya Vialva was credited with an assist on the play.
•Davidson was unable to get a shot off on the reset after the goal in the closing seconds.
•The shot count went to La Salle at 12-5 and the Wildcats had a 2-1 edge on corners.
•Shannon Lytle had a team-best two shots, including one at the 74:27 mark, but it was saved by the Explorers' keeper Claudia Jenkins.
•Goalkeeper Mary Grace Bunch kept the Wildcats in the game, stopping a season-best seven shots which was one off her personal best.
•Davidson fell to 4-4 on the road this year with the setback.
