Several 'Cats Have Successful Weekend at UNCW Invite

UNC WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team competed in their second Fall event over the weekend of Sept. 27-29, at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational on the UNCW Tennis Courts and several players came out victorious for the three-day event. Competing at the invite was host UNCW along with Davidson, Appalachian State, Charlotte and George Washington.
Nine players won at least one singles match on the weekend, while a pair of doubles teams went 2-0 and another two earned at least one win for Davidson.
The duo of Elizabeth Truluck and Emma Heiderscheit led the way in singles play, each going 3-0 in their matches against App. State, UNCW and GW. Truluck came back from a set down in each of her matches to pull out super tie-breakers in the final set. The sophomore scored a 4-6, 6-1, 1-0(9-7) win against her ASU opponent before then again regrouping for a 2-6, 6-0, 1-0(8) triumph in her UNCW match. Wrapping up the invitational, Truluck nailed down a 5-7, 6-1, 1-0(9) decision vs. her Colonial opponent.
Freshman Heiderscheit rolled in all three of her matches, securing wins of 6-4, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-1 vs. ASU and UNCW, and then closing out the weekend with a nice 6-2, 6-1 decision against GW.
Mira Gladstone, Josie Schaffer and Franny Shea each tallied two singles wins on the weekend. Gladstone took decisions of 7-6, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-1 against Charlotte and UNCW opponents. The freshmen tandem of Schaffer and Shea also defeated their 49er opponents on the strength of 0-6, 6-0, 1-0(8) and 7-5, 6-1 decisions, while scoring wins of 7-5, 6-2 and 6-7(5), 7-5, 1-0(5) against a pair of Seahawk opponents.
Alexandra Abele (7-6, 6-3 vs. GW), Samantha Armas (7-5, 6-4 vs. GW), Alyssa Hahn (1-6, 6-1, 1-0(6) vs. UNCW) and Nicole Krykanov (6-4, 6-1 vs. ASU) each earned one singles win on the weekend.
In doubles play, the teams of Armas and Truluck along with Krykanov and Abele had 2-0 marks on the weekend. Armas and Truluck scored wins of 6-3 and 6-4 against UNCW and GW, respectively. The other Wildcat team secured wins of 6-2 and 6-3 vs. the same opponents.
Truluck also teamed up with Hahn for a 6-4 win vs. UNCW, while Gladstone and Schaffer tallied a 6-4 decision against the Seahawks.
Davidson turns around and plays its third straight Fall event this weekend, Oct. 5-6, at the Elon Invitational.
