Wrestling Drops SoCon Road Dual at Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. –Davidson freshman Kyle Gorant won his third straight bout, but wrestling fell at Chattanooga in a Southern Conference dual with the Mocs, 34-9.
With the loss Davidson falls to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in SoCon matches, while with the win Chattanooga improves to 4-5 and 2-0 in conference action.
With his 8-2 decision at 133-pounds, Gorant got his hand raised for the third consecutive bout. The Coopersburg, Pa., native improved to 12-8 on the year and is tied with classmate Mitchell Trigg atop the team leaderboard in wins.
Davidson senior Tony Palumbo won his second SoCon bout of the year in as many tries. The veteran 157 pounder defeated Chattanooga's Ryan Resnick for the second time this season by the same score, 4-2. He also faced the Moc opponent at the Wolpfack Open back in November.
The final winner of the day for Andy Lausier's 'Cats was at 184 pounds and junior Conor Fenn. Fenn posted a strong, 8-point first period, and cruised to a 10-4 decision. Fenn evens out at 11-11 overall this year and, like Palumbo, is 2-0 in SoCon bouts.
Davidson returns to the mat Saturday, Feb. 9 when they host nationally ranked Pittsburgh at Belk Arena. First bout is slated for 7 p.m.
