Davidson Opens Fall Season in Battle at the Creek Invite

BUIES CREEK, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team got their Fall season underway over the weekend, Sept. 28-29, by competing in Campbell's Battle at the Creek Invite against Western Carolina, East Carolina and Campbell.
Singles and doubles were played over the weekend, with five Wildcats going 2-1 on the season. Samantha Armas opened with a thrilling 7-6, 7-5 win against Campbell and then followed with a 6-3, 6-1 decisions against WCU after dropping a match against East Carolina.
Senior Megan Scholvinck went 2-1 at the top singles spot. The senior tallied a 6-3, 6-4 victory against the Camels before falling to East Carolina. Scholvinck regrouped and rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 vs. the Catamounts.
Fellow classmate Gabrielle Centenari pulled out a three-setter in her first singles match vs. the host Camels, 7-6, 5-7, 6-2. After falling to ECU, she gave up just four games in scoring a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Western Carolina. Freshman Elizabeth Truluck got her first taste of Fall tennis, opening with a 6-2, 6-3 win vs. Campbell and dropped a match against ECU. The native of Myrtle Beach, S.C., ended on a positive note with a 7-5, 6-1 victory against WCU.
The final 'Cat to go 2-1 was freshman Mira Gladstone. She won a pair of 6-2, 6-1 decisions against Campbell and Western Carolina, while falling to the Pirates.
Alexandra Abele earned a 7-6, 6-1 win against Western Carolina, while Alyssa Hahn pulled out a three-setter against Campbell, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6.
Doubles play saw Scholvinck and Abele go 2-1 each with their different partners. The senior Scholvinck teamed with Truluck for a 6-1 win against a pair from Campbell and then teamed with Gladstone for a dominating 6-1 decision against ECU. For Abele, she teamed with Gladstone for a 6-1 win against WCU and then Armas to earn anther 6-1 decision against Campbell.
Davidson goes to the Elon Dual Tournament next weekend, Oct. 6-7, for its second Fall event.
