HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In addition to senior Jack Lang sitting just three off the pace following an opening round 67 (-4), the Davidson golf team is also tied for third after day one of the Marshall Invitational.
Due to weather and course conditions, the annual event being played on the Par 71, 6,523-yard Guyan Country Club layout has been cut to 36 holes.
Tomorrow's second and final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
A senior from Lexington, Mass., Lang carded seven birdies and was one four Wildcats to shoot par or better to start the 2018-19 campaign. The two-time all-conference performer and 2017 A-10 Champion is three back of individual leader and Wichita State's Adrien Michellod (-7).
Davidson, which shot 278 (-6) as a team, is just one behind league foe VCU (-7) and 11 back of the Shockers, who lead at 11-under.
Freshman Viraj Garewal began his collegiate career with a bogey-free three-under 67 and is one back of Lang tied for seventh. Alex Ross (71), Hoke Carlton (72) and Kevin Carlock (73) are also in the Wildcats' starting lineup, while individual competitor Clayton Tribus opened with a two-under 69.
In all, the Wildcats finished day one with a tournament-best 20 birdies.
