DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's cross country team opens the 2018 season ranked 11th in the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Regional Poll, announced by the organization Monday.
The Wildcats are returning to the trails following an impressive 2017 campaign where they finished ninth at the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championship and earned the ninth spot in the final regional rankings.
The 'Cats return three scorers from the third place Atlantic 10 Championship squad including All-Conference team members, senior Caroline Yarbrough and junior Maddie Hunter. Yarbrough looks to earn her fourth All-Conference team honors in as many tries. Junior Susannah Cate also returns as the final scorer from the 2017 championship.
Four A-10 teams open the season in the polls including Richmond in eighth in the Southeast ahead of Davidson. Dayton sits in ninth in the Great Lakes Region, while Duquesne opens at 12th in the Mid-Atlantic.
Davidson kicks off their season Friday, Aug. 31 at the Charlotte Opener at Frank Liske Park.
