DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off a 2-1 weekend to open the 2018 season, Davidson will conclude its homestand Tuesday when cross-county rival Charlotte visits Belk Arena for a 7 p.m. contest.
After falling to Central Arkansas on day one of the Wildcat Classic, Davidson bounced back with impressive 3-0 victories over Marist and William & Mary.
Senior Mason Rooney and sophomore Ellie Crosley were selected to the all-tournament team. Rooney finished the season-opening weekend with 25 kills (3.11 per set) and 49 assists (5.44 per set) and five total blocks, while Crosley added 23 kills (2.56 per set) on just 37 swings (.595) and a team-best nine total blocks.
Freshman Hattie Rodriguez led Davidson over the weekend with 28 kills (3.11 per set).
The Wildcats and 49ers have met 28 times with Charlotte leading the all-time series, 17-11, including a 3-2 victory (25-14, 22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13) over Davidson a year ago.
Like Davidson, Charlotte hosted a tournament this past weekend as the 49ers went 2-2 with wins over Presbyterian and USC Upstate.
Reean Richardson and Sydney Rowan lead the 49er attack with 56 and 51 kills, respectively.
Up next following its battle with Charlotte, Davidson will travel to Boone this weekend for the Appalachian State Invitational. The Wildcats will take on the host Mountaineers Friday at 7:30 p.m. before playing Clemson (10 a.m.) and Mississippi State (4:00 p.m.) Saturday.
