LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that 973 teams, including Davidson for the third straight year, have earned the Team Academic Award for the 2017-18 season. The 973 is an all-time high as the award honors teams who have matched their dedication to volleyball with excellence in the classroom.
The Team Academic Award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Davidson is one of six teams from the Atlantic 10 to receive the Team Academic Award (Fordham, George Mason, La Salle, Saint Louis, Rhode Island).
The Wildcats begin their 2018 campaign at home, welcoming Marist, Central Arkansas, and William & Mary for the annual Wildcat Classic on August 24-25.
