DAVIDSON, N.C. — Several Davidson women's basketball players are spending their summer this year advancing their academics. Rising senior Kyla Roland is one of those Wildcats. Below is what Kyla and the research she is doing this summer on campus.
Kyla's synopsis:
"As a member of the Syn Bio 2018 team, we are investigating the idea of artificial selection outside of living cells. Specifically, we are working on using evolutionary mechanisms to optimize the production of functional proteins outside of a living system. In collaboration with a team of students from Missouri Western State University, we have split into two teams to tackle this problem and achieve our desired outcome using two distinct methods."
On the court, Roland, a forward from Farmington Hills, Mich., enters her senior year having played in 67 games her first three seasons. Last year she played in 19 games and had her second career double-digit rebounding game at UCF with a season-best 10 boards.
