SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Since last facing the Wildcats, NC Central has gone 15-17 (27-23 overall), most recently dropping two-of-three against league foes Florida A&M. Second baseman Corey Joyce, a freshman All-American a year ago, continues to pace the team, posting a .372 clip with a .564 slugging and 43 runs. The Eagles boast two other above .300 hitters in senior Zach Michalski and sophomore Carter Williams, and still rank in the top 20 nationally for runs scored.
NC Central posts a collective ERA of 4.26, but have struck out nearly 400 batters.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HOSE
Presby enters Wednesday with a 13-34 record and are looking to snap an eight-game losing skid. Despite their record, the Blue Hose also boasts three players with an above .300 average, led by junior infielder Jonathan White's .362 clip. Presbyterian has blasted 44 long balls, led by senior Nick Wise's nine. The pitching staff carries an ERA of 6.35.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
The Wildcats are 11-1 all-time against NC Central, most recently defeating the Eagles 10-2 in early March at Wilson Field. Davidson used just six hits to earn the victory, as the trio of Cam Johnson, Brett Centracchio, and Zach Nussbaum each scored twice.
The 'Cats are 10-11 all-time against the Blue Hose, dropping under .500 after falling 8-6 in a contest late last season. In that game, Cam Johnson, Alec Acosta, and Alex Fedje-Johnson each registered a hit and a run.
LAST TIME OUT
Davidson picked up its sixth straight A-10 series over the weekend, taking two-of-three from league leaders Saint Louis on the road. The 'Cats continued to live by the long ball, blasting five on the weekend. Sophomore Brett Centracchio homered three times, including twice in the opening contest, and junior Justin Lebek launched his first collegiate grand slam. Senior Cam Johnson also homered for his fifth of the year. In Friday's victory, junior Allen Barry improved to 8-1 on the season, tying for the league lead in wins. Barry retired the first eight Billikens, then bounced back to retire the next six consecutively two batters later, and classmate Casey Sutherland picked up his fifth save of the season in the 4-3 win.
RECORD SETTERS
The 'Cats returned to North Carolina with 30 wins in 2018, the most regular season victories in program history, and second-most overall, five away from last year's 35 mark.
UP NEXT
Davidson will take its bye week this weekend, and returns to the field next Thursday for its regular season finale, hosting A-10 foes Dayton in a three game set.
