DAVIDSON, N.C. – Dates with five NCAA Tournament teams, including a Final Four and two Elite Eight participants from a year ago, as well as 11 home contests, highlight the 2018 Davidson Men's Soccer Schedule, as released Thursday.
"The schedule offers exciting opportunities for our team to shine," said Head Coach Matt Spear. "It's always about challenging ourselves, which should drive us each day and bring out our best. The ultimate aim is to peak come A-10 action in October."
Following a three-game exhibition slate, the Wildcats will kick-off the season against in-state foe High Point on Aug. 27 at Alumni Stadium.
The home portion of the schedule will also include the likes of former Southern Conference rival Furman (9/4), perennial power and 2017 Final Four qualifier North Carolina (9/11), four Atlantic 10 opponents and Virginia Tech (10/23).
"Hosting North Carolina on September 11 is a special treat and we expect a packed Alumni Stadium with 2,000 as the attendance aim. Put that date on your calendar."
The last time the 'Cats hosted UNC in a regular season match-up, they knocked off the nationally-ranked Heels, 1-0, on Oct. 17, 2011.
On Sept. 16, Davidson will welcome UNC Asheville to 1992 Team Field where its seven seniors will be honored prior to the 2:00 p.m. match.
The Wildcats' eight-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule features a road game at defending and tournament champion UMass (10/17) followed by a tilt with Fordham three days later at Alumni Stadium.
Fordham joined Wake Forest, which will entertain Davidson on Sept. 25, and North Carolina in last year's Elite Eight.
Davidson will also take on George Washington (9/29 – Home), Dayton (10/6 – Away), Saint Joseph's (10/10 – Home), La Salle (10/13 – Away), George Mason (10/27 – Home) and Duquesne (10/31 – Away) in league play.
This season's Atlantic 10 Tournament will be played on campus sites Nov. 3 & 4, with the semifinals and finals moving to Saint Louis the following weekend.
