ARLINGTON, Va. – Davidson baseball dropped its second-round contest with top seeded Saint Louis on the second day of the Atlantic 10 Tournament at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park just outside of Washington, D.C.
The 'Cats briefly led and then tied the contest once again, but suffered from a five-run seventh and were unable to overcome the deficit and fell 11-5.
Junior Justin Lebek turned in his second multi-homer game of the year, blasting two solo shots. He now holds the tournament lead with three. Classmate Max Bazin turned in his fifth consecutive two-hit contest, and also scored three times.
After a sac fly put the Billikens on the board, Davidson took the lead after Bazin led off with a single, scored on a double from Ward Coleman, and then Coleman came home on a single from Cam Johnson.
Bazin scored again on a single through the left side from senior Alec Acosta to give Davidson a 3-1 lead. SLU then took the lead in the bottom of that frame with two homeruns.
Lebek quickly tied the game back up with his first long ball, before the Billikens regained control following four consecutive walks. SLU went on to plate five in the seventh, then added another run in the eighth.
Lebek launched his second jack of the day in the ninth, and the 'Cats threatened leaving two on on in the frame.
Davidson will play its second game of the day in an elimination contest at 8:30 p.m. tonight facing Richmond, the team it sent to the consolation bracket Wednesday.
