DAVIDSON, N.C. – A total of 11 Davidson varsity athletic teams received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards, as announced Wednesday.
Davidson is ranked tied for 16th Nationally for the teams that earned public recognition.
2018: 1. Brown 20; 2. Holy Cross 19; 3. (tie) Dartmouth, Villanova 18; 5. Stanford 17; 6. Lehigh 16; 7. (tie) Bucknell, Columbia, Georgetown, Pennsylvania, Yale 15; 12. Notre Dame 13; 13. (tie) Boston College, Colgate, Northwestern 12; 16. (tie) Davidson, Duke, Gonzaga, Princeton 11.
In addition, the Wildcats led the Atlantic 10 Conference with Fordham and George Washington finishing with seven teams each.
The Wildcat programs to receive the Public Recognition Awards are: baseball, men's cross country, men's basketball, men's golf, men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, men's track & field, field hockey, women's lacrosse, women's swimming and diving and women's tennis.
In men's basketball, Davidson joins Belmont and Holy Cross as the only teams to earn this distinction for the 13-year-old program.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years. This accolade, given by the NCAA, recognizes teams that earned multiple APR scores in the Top-10 percent for the past four years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance. High-performing teams receiving awards range from 984 to a perfect 1,000.
Full APR scores for all teams, including access to postseason play and penalties for low-performing teams, will be released on May 23.
