ORLANDO, Fla. — The Davidson women's tennis team's quest for their first Atlantic 10 Championship title started off with an impressive 4-0 victory over 14th-seeded St. Bonaventure Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
The Wildcats ran their record to 16-4 and will advance to face the winner of UMass, which is seeded sixth, and 11th-seeded Saint Joseph's on Friday at 3 p.m.
Behind the strong doubles play of Lindsay Song and Ally Sexton at No. 2, and Samantha Armas and Alyssa Hahn at No. 3, Davidson grabbed the first team point. Song and Sexton won their 11th match together with a 6-4 triumph. Scoring a 6-3 win was Armas and Hahn, moving them to 4-3 on the campaign.
The trio of Alexandra Abele, Lindsay Song and Ava Todd sealed up the win with dominating singles victories at No. 3, 5 and 6. Abele gave up just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 triumph, giving her a record of 15-3 and just one win from last year's total she had as a freshman.
Song blanked her Bonnies (1-18) opponent, 6-0, 6-0, moving her to 14-2 on the year, while Todd allowed just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 decision to claim her 63rd career win and tying Abele with 15 this season.
