DAVIDSON, N.C. – Defenders Jordan Hill and Louis Evans will serve as team captains for the Davidson men's soccer team in 2018, as recently announced by head coach Matt Spear.
"Jordan and Louis have strong backbones to set and demand high standards for our team's culture, work ethic and competitive spirit," said Spear.
"We had all of the players suggest leadership qualities they deemed important for being a captain. We shared, discussed and consolidated these abilities. Then eight team members stepped up to explain and offer their candidacy to be a captain. Jordan and Louis then gathered the majority of the players' votes."
A three-year starter for the Wildcats, Hill helped anchor a Davidson backline that recorded five shutouts a year ago. In addition, he posted a goal and two assists as a junior.
Jordan Hill on being a team captain…
"It's an honor to be chosen as a team captain alongside Louis. I am extremely excited for the group as a whole and the team's ambition! We faced adversity in the spring season with the amount of players, guys playing in different spots, and injuries. I felt like we handled it well, stayed resilient and kept a positive outlook, which is essential to mental toughness and the team's success. Going into my last season alongside fellow seniors, Aidan, Coleman, Drew, Gandy, Seth and Tanner, we'll leave it all on the field to make a lasting mark on the program."
After missing a majority of his freshman campaign due to injury, Evans started 12 games for the Wildcats in 2017, recording the game-winning goal in Davidson's 2-1 win over Winthrop.
Louis Evans on being a team captain…
"It is a privilege to be named captain alongside Jordan because of the respect I have for the guys in the team. Because of my belief in the Davidson Soccer Program and my ambition for it, I hold high expectations for the players, coaches and everyone else involved in aiding the teams' success. I look forward to continuing to reinforce these standards to help our team culture grow even stronger."
Thompson Captures Team's Claw Marks Contest
Sophomore Jaylen Thompson was the spring semester leader in the team's Claw Marks contest. On most days on the training field and in the strength/conditioning center, the players competed in at least one individual or small group activity. Examples were sprints, strength exercises and small-sided games.
Jordan Hill, Quinn Dudek and Aidan Peterson were the top-point getters behind Jaylen.
"The theme of the Claw Marks was to ignite the guys' competitiveness, to be all in, and to give their very best each day," Spear said. "Doing your best is a foundation of development, a growth mindset and excellence. And it helps the players to be comfortable and even to thrive being tested and rated."
Jaylen Thompson on winning Claw Marks…
"The top athletes are always looking to find ways to push their teammates and themselves in every aspect of their game. Claw Marks helps prevent complacency and adds that extra level of competitiveness needed in training."
