SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
Since facing Davidson two weeks ago, Duke has went 3-3, taking the series against league foe No. 12 Florida State, but falling to No. 4 NC State this past weekend to improve to 31-10 overall. The Blue Devils have just one hitter above .300 in freshman Joey Loperfido at .321. Preseason All-American Griffin Conine tops the team with eight long balls and is tied with Loperfido for the team lead in 29 RBI. Duke is hitting .260 as a team, and boasts a 3.47 ERA but has tallied nearly 400 punch outs.
Duke enters the week in the top 15 in the national rankings, marking the Blue Devils' seventh straight week among the country's top 25 teams. Duke faced a stretch of six-straight games against top 15 opponents and posted a 3-3 record during that stretch.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Davidson is 32-113-1 all-time versus the Blue Devils. The 'Cats suffered a 5-0 shutout to Duke earlier this season in Durham. Sophomore Jaret LaCagnina got the start, solid through five frames, retiring 11 straight batters at one point.
LAST TIME OUT
Davidson picked up its fourth consecutive series this past weekend, taking the first two of a three-game set with Richmond over the weekend. The 'Cats staged a comeback in Game 1 for a 6-2 victory, and took the series after a dynamic performance from senior southpaw Evan Roberts, who tossed his first career complete game shutout, scattering just four hits and throwing just 100 pitches.
THE MOUND MATCHUP
Tuesday, April 24, 7:05 PM: LHP Bill Chillari (2.33 ERA, 5-1, 27.0 IP, 30 K) vs. RHP Pete Bloomberg (3.98 ERA, 0-0, 20.1 IP, 14 K)
UP NEXT
