DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson baseball returns to Wilson Field for the beginning of an eight-game home stand this Saturday, welcoming 2017 Ivy League Champions Yale for a three-game stint.
Fans can follow the @dcbaseball_ Twitter account for in-game updates, as well as live stats and video streaming via the links provided. Both of Saturday's games will be streamed. Fans may be required to log in for each contest.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale is the third 2017 NCAA Regional squad the Cats will face this season. The Bulldogs reached the Corvallis Regional Final last spring, but enter the weekend with just one win, a 11-4 victory over nationally ranked Virginia this past weekend in Charlottesville. Junior outfielder Tim DeGraw boasts a stellar .467 batting average, tallying 14 hits. Classmate Simon Whiteman, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Week, carries a .344 clip, while fellow third-year Griffin Dey has a team-best three homers. As a staff, Yale has a 4.41 ERA.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Davidson is 14-11 all-time versus Yale. The two teams last faced off in a two-game series in 2015, where the 'Cats lost 22-3 in Game 1 but powered back for 23-2 win in the finale. Seniors Alec Acosta and Andrew Born each recorded hits and scored in the victory.
JONES ON JOHNNY BENCH WATCH LIST
Charlotte, N.C. product Eric Jones can add another honor to his rapidly growing resume after being named to the 2018 Johnny Bench Award Watch List earlier this week. The award is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate catcher. Jones is the second Wildcat to ever be named to the Watch List, joining now-alum Jake Sidwell '17. The junior, and former National Player of the Week, has already caught four runners stealing in his eleven games behind the plate. Jones ranks at the top or near the top in almost every offensive category in the Atlantic 10 this season.
LAST WEEK AT WILSON FIELD
Red-hot Davidson stumbled at the hands of visiting Lehigh, who took two-of-three from the 'Cats. Senior Evan Roberts propelled the team to victory Saturday, matching a career-high with eight innings pitched and falling one strikeout shy of his career high, fanning seven. In the win, Eric Jones went 3-for-4 with two doubles, classmate Max Bazin tallied two hits (his third straight multi-hit contest), and sophomore Brett Centracchio registered two hits and scored twice. Junior Justin Lebek and sophomore Ward Coleman drove in two runs apiece.
