Golf Begins Play at Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Highlighted by an opening round 72, freshman Alex Ross (72-74 = 146 | T15th) leads the Davidson golf team after day one of the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate hosted by Loyola University (Md.).
The two-day/54-hole event is being played on the Par 72, 7,000-yard Fort Lauderdale Country Club North Course, which was built in 1951.
The 14-team field consists of Austin Peay State, Boston College, Connecticut, Davidson, Drexel, Florida Atlantic, Florida Golf Coast, Hartford, Loyola University Maryland, Old Dominion, St. Bonaventure, St. John's, Toledo and Villanova.
Coming off a Top-20 finish in last week's spring opener, Jack Lang is two back of Ross at 148 (T-31st).
Mike Blasey (79-74 = 153 | T-61st), Michael Freeman (83-75 = 158 | T-77th) and Nathan Tenpas (77-82 = 159 | T-79th) are also in the Wildcat lineup, while Hoke Carlton (76-79 = 155 | T-70th) and Spencer Papciak (81-79 = 160 | 81st) are competing as individuals.
As a team, Davidson sits at 599 (303-296), 11 strokes out of the Top-5.
Toledo (-3) leads the team standings by 10 shots over Austin Peay State, while Nick Rencis (-3) of Old Dominion is the individual leader after rounds of 69 and 72.
Tuesday's third and final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
