
UMass Ends ‘Cats’ 4-Game Win Streak, 14-4

AMHERST, Mass. — Massachusetts held Davidson without a goal in the first half and halted the Wildcats' four-game win streak Saturday in a 14-4 setback in Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse at Garber Field.
The Wildcats fell to 6-4 on the season and suffered their first league defeat to go to 1-1. UMass (7-3, 2-0 A-10) won its third in a row and pushed its NCAA-record league winning streak to 55 consecutive games.
Jordan Wood scored two of the 'Cats' four goals to give her 27 on the season and added an assist for three points. Sarah Kopp and Christine Molinari netted the other two goals.
Pacing the Minutewomen were a trio of multi-goal scorers, with Kiley Anderson getting three goals, and Hannah Palau and Hannah Burnett netting two goals apiece. Anderson added an assist for four points, while Burnett tallied two helps of her own.
Those three players combined for four goals and two assists in the first six and a half minutes to give UMass a 6-0 lead forcing Davidson to use a timeout.
In all, 12 Minutewomen recorded a goal or an assist on the afternoon.
Down 8-0 after halftime, Davidson finally got on the board behind back-to-back goals from Wood to make it 8-2 and not even two minutes were off the clock to start the second half.
It was as close as Davidson got, as UMass went on a 5-0 run to go up 13-2 before Kopp ended the scoring drought with her 14th score of the season. Both teams scored once more each in the final five minutes.
In goal, Rose Woolson had her sixth double-digit save game of the season with 10 stops.
Both teams finished with 20 groundballs, while UMass had advantages of 29-18 in shots and 10-9 in draw controls.
Defender Lindsay Rufolo picked team highs of three groundballs and three caused turnovers, while four other 'Cats had two groundballs each. Natalie Junior forced a pair of turnovers and Kopp scooped up four draw controls.
Davidson travels to George Mason next Friday, April 6, before returning home to take on Saint Joseph's Sunday, April 8.
