
Chaudhry Claims A-10 M. Tennis Weekly Award

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Senior Shamael Chaudhry earned Davidson's fourth weekly award this season when he was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week today by the league office for matches played from March 19-25.
Chaudhry won his first weekly award this year and the fourth of his career overall. He joins Artem Khrapko, who has won player of the week three times this year, as the only 'Cats to claim weekly honors this season. It is also the third week in a row Davidson has claimed the top weekly honor in the league.
The senior had a solid week going a combined 3-1 in singles and doubles action during Davidson's two A-10 road wins at George Mason and George Washington. A native of Walsall, United Kingdom, Chaudhry pushed his win streak to five in a row by recording his 10th and 11th singles wins, respectively, of the season with two hard-fought victories at No. 2. He earned a straight set win against Mason (7-6, 6-1) and then pulled out a three-setter, coming back from a tie-breaker defeat in the first set to earn a 6-7, 6-1, 7-5 decision against GW.
Chaudhry ran is singles record to 11-3 on the season, tied with three other 'Cats for team high honors in wins. He also remained perfect in league play at 4-0 with the two A-10 wins. All 11 victories have come at No. 2.
The three-time A-10 All-First Teamer went 1-1 in doubles with teammate David Hager, improving their record to 8-3 on the season. They scored a 6-2 win at No. 2 against George Mason before falling 6-4 to the Colonials.
With the 3-1 week, Chaudhry has now collected 44 career singles wins and another 34 in doubles action.
Davidson (12-4, 4-0 A-10), which is riding a six-match win streak, stays on the road and faces former Southern Conference foe Elon next in a March 28 match.
