SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Davidson won all six of the singles positions and rolled to its ninth consecutive win with a 6-1 decision on the road Sunday afternoon against Wofford in women's tennis at the Wofford Tennis Courts.
Â
The Wildcats moved to 12-2 on the season, while sending Wofford to 8-4. The nine straight wins are the most since an 11-match streak in 2016 and is the third longest dating back to 1978. The 2005 squad ran off a school-best 12-match win streak.
Â
The match started off with the Terriers claiming the doubles point after wins at No. 2 and 3 positions. The pair of Anna Catharine Feaster and Megan Scholvinck blanked the Terriers' top team, 6-0, to give them a five-match winning streak and a 5-0 record together.
Â
The Wildcats came up just short in earning the team point after Alyssa Hahn and Samantha Armas dropped a close 7-5 tie-breaker at No. 2. The Terriers won at No. 3 by the score of 6-3.
Â
Things were much different in singles play, as the 'Cats took five of the six singles spots in straight sets.
Â
"We started off a little slow and flat in the doubles but turned the energy around for singles," said head coach Susanne Depka. "We definitely took control of our own destiny against some challenging opponents. The team responded well in singles and continued to focus on their own goals rather than the outcome."
Â
Picking up her second win of the season at No. 1 was Scholvinck with a 6-1, 6-3 victory, giving her a 6-7 record overall.
Â
Armas regrouped after a tough doubles defeat to giving up just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 win for her fourth win in a row.
Â
Freshman Lindsay Song impressed again, this time at No. 4, allowing just one game to her Terrier opponent in a 6-0, 6-1 victory to push her record to a perfect 10-0. She is the third Wildcat to reach double digits in wins.
Â
Joining Song in the double-figure win column was Gabrielle Centenari after she won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. She has won a personal-best eight straight and is 10-2 on the season. Alexandra Abele used a 10-5 super tie-breaker win to take her 12th victory home after splitting her first two sets, 6-3 and 2-6.
Â
Giving the Wildcats a clean sweep in singles was Ava Todd with a 7-5, 6-0 triumph at No. 5. It was the senior's third straight win and ran her seasonal record to 9-2.
Â
Davidson next returns home for an Atlantic 10 match March 22 against Saint Louis.
