CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Davidson wrestling team heads to the 2018 Southern Conference Wrestling Championship Saturday, March 3 at McAlister Field House on the campus of The Citadel.
Â
ABOUT DAVIDSON
The Wildcats enter the championship 3-10 overall and 1-6 in conference matches. Davidson's 25-15 victory over The Citadel was their first ever against the Bulldogs (1-54-1) and first SoCon dual win in nearly three years. Junior Aidan Conroy boasts the best record on the squad, 11-11, including a 2-3 mark in conference bouts at 149-pounds. Sophomore Conor Fenn (184) is 10-12 overall, while senior Konner Pritchard (197-pounds), junior Tony Palumbo (157) and sophomore Noah Satterfield (174) all have nine wins apiece.Â
Â
THE 2017 CHAMPIONSHIP
Conor Fenn posted the highest Wildcat finish of the day, earning a fourth-place result in the 174-pound class at McAlister Field House last March. After Fenn was pinned in the championship first round, the then-freshman battled through three consolation bouts to get to the consolation final where Sean Mappes of Chattanooga, the competitor who pinned him that morning, was waiting. Mappes earned a first round technical fall, but Fenn had already secured the team best result of the day. Aidan Conroy at 149-pounds and Konner Pritchard at 184-pounds picked up the 'Cats other two consolation victories.
COACHES COMMENTS

"Our wrestlers are coming into the tournament after a very good month in February, so their enthusiasm and energy is the highest it's been all season. We are fresh, we are healthy, and we are excited about the opportunity to play the underdog role."
