DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team capped off a busy week with another solid win, taking a 6-1 decision over visiting Wingate Sunday afternoon as part of Senior Day. The Wildcats finished 3-0 on the week.
The Wildcats (7-2), who closed out a season-long eight-match homestand by going 7-1 and winning the final four straight matches, honored its three seniors Anna Catharine Feaster, Ally Sexton and Ava Todd prior to the start of the match. Each of them helped the 'Cats to the victory.
"Today was a very special day as it was senior day for us," said head coach Susanne Depka. "We had a great day celebrating our wonderful seniors. I'm so proud of how far they have all come both personally and as tennis players. They embody our team culture and they will be dearly missed once they leave Davidson! Thank you seniors for three-and-a-half great years, and we still have just a little time left with you. We can't wait to see where the remainder of the season takes us."
Despite falling in singles at No. 1, Feaster teamed with Samantha Armas at No. 1 doubles to score a 6-0 win.
Sexton picked up her first singles win of the season with a strong 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 6, while Ava Todd went 2-0 on the day with a 6-1, 7-5 win in singles at No. 4 and teamed with Megan Scholvinck at No. 3 doubles to give Davidson the doubles point after a 6-1 win. The singles win was Todd's fifth straight on the season.
Keeping her winning ways intact was Alexandra Abele at No. 2 singles, securing a 6-3, 6-2 decision to tie her personal best win streak of eight in a row. The sophomore is an impressive 8-1 on the season.
Armas won her fourth singles match of the year with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5, while Gabrielle Centenari earned the final team point when she battling through for a 7-6(10), 6-4 victory at No. 3. It was the junior's fifth-straight win, putting her at 7-2 on the season.
