LYNCHBURG, Va. – Davidson associate head coach Kelly Findley has been named the head men's soccer coach at Liberty University, as announced by Flames' Director of Athletics Ian McCaw on Thursday.
Despite just one season on the Davidson staff, Findley was instrumental in the Wildcats' second-place finish in the 2018 Atlantic 10 standings. In addition to its best finish since joining the A-10 in 2014, Davidson finished 9-6-2 overall.
Findley came to Davidson after a one-year stint with the Sporting Kansas City Development Academy.
Prior to his most recent positions, Findley was the head coach at N.C. State (2011-16) and Butler (2006-2010), where he compiled a 104-76-28 record.
He was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year in both 2009 and 2010, after guiding the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament both seasons.
Findley's 2010 Butler squad entered the NCAA Tournament ranked fifth nationally, and was one of only two unbeaten teams in the nation before finishing 16-1-3 overall.
While on the Wolfpack sideline, Findley and his staff put together three nationally-ranked recruiting classes, including 2014, which was ranked third in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Before his time at Butler, Findley coached at Charlotte (2001-05) where he served three seasons as an assistant coach and two seasons as associate head coach.
Findley enjoyed a standout collegiate career, as he was a four-time Most Valuable Player at Judson College in Elgin, Ill. He was a three-time NAIA All-American, a three-time NCCAA All-American and a two-time NSCAA All-American as a midfielder. In addition, he was named the Northern Illinois Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year three consecutive seasons, and named Judson's Athlete of the Year in 1990.
Findley helped Judson to its first NCCAA National Championship in 1991, and finished his collegiate career fifth on Judson's all-time assist list with 48. He was named to Judson's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.
Following his collegiate career, Findley played professional soccer for the Charlotte Eagles for six seasons (1991-96). He helped the Eagles to three South Atlantic Division Championships, five divisional playoff appearances, and two trips to the national finals.
Findley holds a USSF "A" license, a NSCAA Premier Diploma.
He and his wife, Joanne, have five children, Gabriel, Elysia, Corinne, Stephen and Keane.
