Catching up with ... Matt Regan
11/2/2018 5:05:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving
The Davidson swimming teams will host Old Dominion in a dual meet Saturday inside Charles A. Cannon Pool, with competition set to begin at 12 p.m.
One of the Wildcats entering the water is senior Matt Regan, a chemistry major from Winston-Salem. Regan swims butterfly and sprint freestyle events and was kind enough to answer a few questions in this edition of "Catching up with ... "
When/how did you get involved in competitive swimming?
Regan: I started swimming competitively around the age of 10, and I've been swimming ever since. I had a goal from a young age to swim for a Division I school, and it's hard to believe that my collegiate career is almost over.
What attracted you to Davidson?
Regan: I wanted to be close to family, and the small school environment was appealing to me. When I took my recruiting trip to Davidson, I fell in love with the comradery and the support system surrounding the school, and that was key in my decision.
What's your best Davidson swimming memory to date?
Regan: I wouldn't say there's a single memory I hold above the rest. I'll always remember, however, all the time I spend with my class of swimmers. They are some of the best people I'll ever meet.
What do you like to do for fun away from the pool?
Regan: Half of my family is from Pittsburgh, so I'll watch a Penguins, Steelers or Pirates game whenever I get a chance. When I'm not in season, I'll play some tennis occasionally.
Who is an athlete you admire and why?
Regan: Tim Duncan for several reasons. He never played basketball for the money or fame, he was never flashy on the court and he's a true team player.
What's the last book you read?
Regan: I'm not a huge reader, but the last book I read was Origins by Dan Brown. I love the Robert Langdon Series.
What are your plans after graduation?
Regan: I plan to work at the Wake Forest Medical Center for a year conducting research, then I'll apply to either graduate schools or medical schools.
