Kavarana, Rose and Loope Highlight Weekend at WFU Invite

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team wrapped up their Fall season by taking part in the Wake Forest Fall Invitational over the weekend, Nov. 9-11, and three Wildcats had strong showings by winning their flights.
Freshman Sam Kavarana won the C1 singles flight, while the duo of Matthew Rose and Alexander Loope took home the B4 doubles title. In all, six Wildcats competed in both singles and doubles over the weekend.
Kavarana opened with a strong 6-4, 6-3 win against a UNCG opponent and then scored a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the semifinals. The Charleston, S.C., native then earned a comeback win after falling in the first set, 6-0, to score 7-6(5) and 6-2 wins in the next two sets against Gerard Sola of Campbell.
Rose and Loope started the weekend with a win against a pair from Virginia before securing victories of 6-0 and 6-1 against doubles teams from UNCG and Campbell to claim the doubles title.
In the B1 singles flight, Yash Parikh finished fifth. He opened with a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win to reach the next round, but this time dropped another hard-fought match by the scores of 6-3, 5-7, 7-6(6). The Tucson, Ariz., native came back with consolation wins of 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-4 to earn fifth place.
Tommy Mason had a singles win on the consolation side of the C2 bracket, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Cam Mazzoni also won a consolation match of 6-3, 6-2 in the D1 singles bracket.
In doubles, the duo of Axel Fries and Parikh won the consolation side of the A4 doubles flight with wins of 6-1, 6-0. In addition, the pair of Mazzoni and Douglas MacIntosh earned a 7-5 win in the B1 doubles flight.
Davidson takes some time off now before gearing back up for their Spring season in January.
