Davidson Closes Fall Season at the Elon Tennis Invite

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson women's tennis team closed out their Fall season by taking part in the Elon Tennis Invitational Saturday and Sunday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Wildcats competed in both singles and doubles over the two-day invite against host Elon, Liberty, Radford and North Carolina Central.
Samantha Armas won the Powell singles title going 3-0 on the weekend. The junior earned a 6-3, 6-2 opening-round win against Frida Cnossen of NCCU and then earned another straight set victory, 6-4, 6-3, against host Elon. Armas ended the weekend with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 win against Olivia Archer of Elon to win the title.
Also taking part in the Powell singles bracket was Mira Gladstone, who earned a 6-4, 6-3 first round win before falling to Archer, 7-5, 6-3. She also dropped a third place match against another Elon foe, 6-1, 7-6(3).
In the Gold singles bracket, Alexandra Abele finished third with a pair of wins. She opened with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory against Malin Falk of Radford before falling to a Liberty opponent, 6-4, 6-3. Abele regrouped and closed the weekend with a 7-6, 6-0 triumph against her second Radford opponent.
Elizabeth Truluck picked up a singles win in the same bracket, a 6-4, 6-4 decision against Johanna Ranta-Aho, but fell in the semifinals to Elon's Maria Paraja (7-5, 6-2), who ended up winning the the whole bracket.
Scoring a pair of wins in the Maroon singles bracket was Gabrielle Centenari, netting wins of 6-2, 6-4 and 1-6, 7-5, 11-6 to finish seventh in the bracket. Alyssa Hahn also had a couple of singles wins, earning those in the Oak singles draw. She cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win against Amanda Yermal in the first round, but fell 6-3, 7-5 to host Elon in the semis before then finishing third in the bracket with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Alex Koniaev of Elon.
In doubles play, the duo of Armas and Hahn finished third in the Maroon bracket after wins of 8-6 and 6-3, respectively. The pair of Centenari and Truluck also competed in that bracket, earning a 6-3 win to finish seventh.
The last Wildcat team of Centenari and Gladstone won their first round match, 8-2, against a pair from Radford, but then dropped a 6-4 decision to host Elon in the semifinals.
Davidson will take some time off before being their Spring season in January.
