NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Davidson's Ciera Cockrell is Atlantic 10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 15-21, the conference announced Monday.
The senior outside hitter from Waxhaw had a career-high 24 kills in Sunday's 3-2 win at Rhode Island, and the honor is the first of her career.
"Ciera has gotten better each week, and this award is a validation of all the hard work she's put in this year," said Davidson coach Chris Willis. "I'm excited to see that she's performing her best when the team needs her the most."
Cockrell had eight kills in Sunday's second set and four in the decisive fifth. Her week also included a 22-kill performance in the Wildcats' 3-1 win at Fordham on Friday.
Davidson (12-8 overall, 5-4 A-10) has now won five straight matches to surge into the top half of the A-10 standings. It's the team's longest win streak since 2004.
