DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson women's basketball head coach Gayle Coats Fulks announced today that sophomore forward Andrea Robinson will miss the remainder of the season after she was recently diagnosed with leukemia.
Robinson, who played in nine games and started six of them this season, has been out since the middle of December. She is currently undergoing treatment at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in her hometown of Baltimore, Md.
"While this was unexpected and incredibly difficult news for Andrea, her family, and our program, I have been so impressed and inspired by Andrea's courage and positive attitude as she has faced this challenge head on," said Coats Fulks. "I'm grateful for the excellent medical care she has received starting here at Davidson and now at Johns Hopkins, and our team will be fighting with her and supporting her and her family every step of the way."
The Robinson family has set up an account at youcaring.com/andrearobinson. For more information or to learn more about how you can help, please contact the women's basketball office at 704-894-2372 or email Terry Gilliland at tegilliland@davidson.edu.
The coaching staff and Robinson's teammates are honoring and rallying behind her by wearing orange t-shirts, the color that represents leukemia, during pregame warmups and the coaching staff is wearing ribbons on the sideline during games the rest of the season.
"The thoughts and prayers of the entire Atlantic 10 family go out to Andrea as she faces this challenge," said Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. "We know she will show the same fight and determination during her treatments as she does on the basketball court, and we join in supporting her and her family well during this difficult time."
At Davidson's January 24 contest against Massachusetts, the first 500 students in attendance will receive an orange rally towel in honor and support of Robinson.
