ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Charlie Caswell's golden goal in the 95th minute lifted Davidson over UNC Asheville, 3-2, in non-conference men's soccer action, Wednesday evening at Greenwood Field.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 3-0-0 for the first time since the start of the 2005 campaign.

Caswell's first career goal and game-winner was set up when Nile Chau played Danny Davis, who headed it to the sophomore for a single touch with the left foot.

Davidson, which held a commanding 23-11 advantage in shots, got on the board and evened the score, 1-1, when Matt Reinikka put away a header off a pass from classmate Hunter Howard.

Coleman Richards, who provided the heroics in Saturday's upset of Radford, gave the Wildcats their first lead in the 85th minute. The sophomore's second career strike was also assisted by Davis following a corner kick.

Exactly two minutes later, Kyle Adams forced the extra session converting a volley following a set piece with just 3:32 to play.

In addition to outshooting UNCA (0-4-0), the Wildcats finished with an impressive 12-0 margin in corner kicks.

Asheville's Tyler Moore stopped a game-high eight shots, while Sawyer Gaffney, making his first career start, recorded four saves for Davidson.

Midway through the opening half, Jackson Allen gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage with a shot from long range.

Up Next
Davidson will play its fourth straight Big South foe to open the 2017 season when Winthrop visits Alumni Stadium and 1992 Team Field for a 6 p.m. contest Saturday.

Postgame Comments from Head Coach Matt Spear
"The guys passed a good character test to come from behind and win on the road in overtime."

"On the attacking side, we played our best soccer in terms of creating lots of quality chances."

"With 12 corner kicks, we were dangerous and it culminated with Matt's header. Coleman continues his scoring ways off the bench, and Charlie capped the night with the golden goal."

"Credit Asheville for digging in and battling in their home opener. Their first goal was a scorcher, and the second came from a set piece then a great first time volley."
