LAST TIME OUT
Davidson jumped out to a 42-7 halftime lead with six different  'Cats finding the end zone and cruised to a 42-21 win over Guilford during Homecoming weekend before the off week. Freshman quarterback Tyler Phelps completed 20-of-30 passes for 246 yards and threw for a pair of touchdowns and rushed for another. Sophomore receiver William Wicks caught a career-high nine passes for 171 yards including an 87 yard scoring grab. Davidson sacked Guilford six times, led by 1.5 from Bryce Perry-Martin's 1.5 and 3.5 tackles-for-loss.

#TRENDINGNOW
Freshman Wesley Dugger entered the off week ranked third in FCS in rushing yards with 377 - he currently sits in 13th after three games played. His 125.7 rushing yards-per-game leads the PFL and is eighth in the nation.

CAN HE KICK IT? ... YES HE CAN!
Connecting on all 12 of his point after attempts this season, senior kicker Trevor Smith has moved into second all-time in PAT's with 78! Smith is 78-of-82 in his career and trails only Daniel Hanks (109).

HONORARY CAPTAIN
This week's honorary captain is Ben Skurek '04. A four-year letterwinner, Skurek registered 89 tackles and 3 interceptions while playing defensive back for the 'Cats from 2000-03.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
Senior defensive back Steven Spears stepped into the spotlight for this edition of the Football Player's Spotlight!

ANOTHER ONE
For the fourth consecutive year, Davidson football has earned an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee. Senior linebacker Ryan Samuel joins Matt Casey, Ryan Woods and Nate Casey in succession and looks to become the fourth Good Works Team member all-time with the Wildcats. The team will be announced in early September.

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE STAFF
Paul Nichols added four new coaches to the fold, two on each side of the ball. Hank Hughes (Springfield, '79) boasts an impressive resume having worked at the NCAA FBS level for 20 years. He most recently worked as defensive line coach for Nebraska in the Big 10 in 2015. With an extended stay at the University of Connecticut from 2001-13, Hughes helped lead the Huskies to five bowl games and the 2012 team to a ninth place rank in the country in total defense and seventh against the run. Jeff McDaniels (Davidson, '14) returns to his alma as cornerbacks coach. McDaniels comes back after spending two seasons with Texas State University working with offensive skill players and special teams.

On the offensive side, Laymarr Marshall (Duke, '98) will coach the running backs. Marshall spent the last 18 seasons at Mt. Tabor High School where he was head coach since 2008. While at Duke, Marshall earned Academic All-ACC honors in 1995 and was a three-year starter at running back. Tim Zetts (Akron, '09) will serve as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Zetts spent the last two seasons at John Carroll University where he was named interim head coach last season to go with his offensive coordinator duties.
