NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After a fantastic weekend at the net for Davidson volleyball, freshman Ellie Crosley has been named the Atlantic 10's Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
"I'm proud of Ellie's progress this fall," head coach Chris Willis said. "For a freshman to come in and play at this level in the middle is difficult. She's focused on execution of the game plan and getting better every day. I'm excited to see what she'll do the rest of the season."
Crosley posted 14 blocks in two matches over the weekend, including a career-high eight during the 'Cats five-set thriller with Rhode Island. The middle hitter had five solo rejections, and averaged a total of 1.75 blocks per set. She also contributed 14 kills and did not commit a single hitting error during Friday's sweep of Fordham. She carried a .857 hitting percentage Friday, and finished the weekend at a .308 clip. Crosley ranks third in the league with a .348 efficiency, and is also ranked fourth in total blocks (60).
Crosley is just the second Wildcat to ever win A-10 Rookie of the Week accolades, and the third to claim a weekly award from the league. The Austin, Texas native has nearly eclipsed the 100-kill mark, totaling 93 on the season. She and the 'Cats will be back in action Saturday, welcoming the Rams of VCU for a 6 p.m. tilt in Belk Arena.
