DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson football team is set to open the 2017 campaign Saturday, Sep. 2 at home in a non-conference clash with Brevard College. In honor of the Military Appreciation Game, Davidson camouflage rally towels will be given to the first 750 fans, while those with a military ID will get free tickets for them and four family members!

The tilt with the Tornados marks the first ever meeting between the two programs.

The Wildcats enter Saturday's tilt on a two-game non-conference win streak after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan (35-21) and Livingstone (38-12) last September.
HONORARY CAPTAIN
Serving as an honorary captain for the home opener will be former Wildcat Ike Bailey '95. Bailey was a four-year letterwinning wide receiver for Davidson from 1991-94. In 1993 Bailey and teammate Shane Mills tied for the team-lead with 24 receptions each. He finished his career with 928 receiving yards off 60 receptions and three touchdowns. Bailey currently serves as an adjunct professor at Davidson and has been published by several national outlets including CNN.com and Esquire.com. For his work, Bailey has won numerous writing awards including from the National Society of Newspaper Columnist, the Casey Medals and the National Association of Black Journalists.

Two of the teams captains, Stockton McGuire and Ben Rowell sat down with Mark Plemmons this week to wrap up the preseason progress and look ahead to the 2017 season.
ANOTHER ONE
For the fourth consecutive year, Davidson football has earned an Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee. Senior linebacker Ryan Samuel joins Matt Casey, Ryan Woods and Nate Casey in succession and looks to become the fourth Good Works Team member all-time with the Wildcats. The team will be announced in early September.
NEW ADDITIONS TO THE STAFF
Paul Nichols added four new coaches to the fold, two on each side of the ball. Hank Hughes (Springfield, '79) boasts an impressive resume having worked at the NCAA FBS level for 20 years. He most recently worked as defensive line coach for Nebraska in the Big 10 in 2015. With an extended stay at the University of Connecticut from 2001-13, Hughes helped lead the Huskies to five bowl games and the 2012 team to a ninth place rank in the country in total defense and seventh against the run. Jeff McDaniels (Davidson, '14) returns to his alma as cornerbacks coach. McDaniels comes back after spending two seasons with Texas State University working with offensive skill players and special teams.

On the offensive side, Laymarr Marshall (Duke, '98) will coach the running backs. Marshall spent the last 18 seasons at Mt. Tabor High School where he was head coach since 2008. While at Duke, Marshall earned Academic All-ACC honors in 1995 and was a three-year starter at running back. Tim Zetts (Akron, '09) will serve as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Zetts spent the last two seasons at John Carroll University where he was named interim head coach last season to go with his offensive coordinator duties.
