2017 AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats are looking to duplicate their 2015 Atlantic 10 Tournament berth, after failing to make the trip last year. The 'Cats are entering their fourth year in the A-10, with 2015 Coach of the Year Ginny Turner returning for her 11th year at the helm. Preseason All-Conference selection and top returning point scorer Hannah Fisher leads a talented group of veterans.
Also returning for the 'Cats is junior defender Courtney Byler, who broke the single-season record for assists last year with a league-high 11. She also topped the conference in defensive saves (6) and looks to have another stellar campaign in 2017.
ON THE SIDELINES
Turner enters Friday at a .500 record in Opening Day matchups, has mentored six A-10 All-Conference selections, six NorPac Players of the Year, and 18 All-NorPac honorees. Joining her again are second-year assistants Caitlin Walsh, a former standout at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., and DCFH alum Sarah Fisher, who will work primarily with goalkeepers and defense.
THE BACKFIELD BRIGADE; WELCOME TO THE SQUAD
The Wildcats return a veteran backfield, with the senior trio of Lauren Gampper, Morgan French, and Anna Brewer, who have all started every game for the last two seasons.
Davidson welcomed seven new "sticks" this fall; three forwards in Nellie Turnage (Denver, Colo.), Corynne Hammit (Fort Worth, Texas), and Sydney McKenna (Louisville, Ky.), a trio of midfielders in Caitlyn Gund (St. Louis, Mo.), McGee Roman (Richmond, Va.), and Caroline Stanley (WIlton, Conn.), and lone defender Grace Coleman (Short Hills, N.J.).
THE SCHEDULE
Davidson will play eight games at home this year, beginning with the 'Cats Sunday showdown with Longwood on Sept. 10. The team will play four conference contests at home and also welcomes ACC foe Wake Forest to Belk Turf Field.
