DAVIDSON, N.C. — Rising senior Saadia Timpton of the Davidson women's basketball team was recently selected for a special Summer internship with Under Armour, taking place from May 30-August 18.
Timpton was one of 98 out of 14,000 applicants to earn a position with the company for the summer. The majority of Under Armour "rookies" will work in Baltimore, but some will work in New York, Nashville (Distribution House), Portland & Hong Kong. The program is ten to twelve weeks long.
The Charlotte, N.C., native will report to the "collegiate mid-major" business unit and will be assigned a mentor by Human Resources upon arrival. About eighty-five percent of her time and effort will go into her project, which will be to make a presentation or "pitch" to a school the way Under Armour did Davidson College. Timpton will be asked to participate in various "give-back" efforts (community service) throughout the summer.
The week of June 12, Timpton will go to the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) trade show in Orlando, Fla, where she will join the team at the trade show and participate in recruiting of perspective schools.
Other projects the senior will be part of is a rookie sample sale, which will be held July 21 – 23. Timpton will be required to prepare for this in advance of the sale. (Rookie's facilitate the return of salesmen samples and sell them, some proceeds go to charity). Timpton will also interact with executives such as Kevin Plank, Kerry Chandler and Paul Fipps.
The final deadline will be August 17, as Timpton will do her presentation to a panel of UA executives.
