Swimming's Haley Mitchell Named Coach for World Maccabiah Games

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Davidson swimming's assistant coach Haley Mitchell has been named coach for the junior national swim team for the 20th World Maccabiah Games, slated for July 4-17 in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa, Israel.
The 20th World Maccabiah Games will be held in July 4-17, 2017. The Maccabiah Games is a celebration of Jewish unity, culture, and heritage through world athletic competition. The event takes place every four years in Israel. There will be over 70 countries bringing delegations of Jewish athletes to compete in 38 sports.
Mitchell will head to Haifa and serves as one of two coaches for a squad of 12 men and 12 women during the three-week trip/ four-day competition. There will also be an open national team, which includes 2x Olympic Gold Medalist Anthony Ervin. Mitchell, who enters her second season as an assistant coach with the 'Cats, competed in the 2009 Maccabiah Games, where she won four gold medals and a silver.
"I am incredibly honored to be heading back to Israel as a coach for the 20th Maccabiah Games," Mitchell said. "It is a humbling experience to share a sport that I love so much with Jewish athletes from all over the world. I look forward to showing my Wildcat Pride in Israel!"
