MISSOURI- Four days after becoming the 23rd Davidson Wildcat to ever be selected in the MLB Draft, senior outfielder Will Robertson has garnered his fourth All-American honor of the season. He was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Third Team, as announced by the organization Saturday morning. He is one of five players from the Atlantic 10 to be named to the squad, and one of three outfielders.
Robertson, who was a Baseball America Second Team All-American selection, Collegiate Baseball Third Team choice, and Perfect Game Honorable Mention, was named to the ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic All-Region team earlier this week as well. He is the only player from the Atlantic 10 to be named to all four All-American lists, and one of just six players from a Group of 5 school to be named by all four.
The Greenville, S.C., native continues to add to his ever-growing resume, where he has recently become the most decorated Wildcat in program history. In addition to his All-American honors, Robertson was also named a finalist for the Gregg Olson Breakout Player of the Year award. He was a first team All-Atlantic 10 selection, as well as being named to the prestigious A-10 All-Academic team. A two-time A-10 Player of the Week and former National Player of the Week, the Baltimore Orioles selected Robertson in the 30th round of this week's MLB Draft.
The right fielder finished his Davidson career with a 56-game reached base streak (still active), the longest in school history. He turned in hitting streaks of 16 and 20 games each this season, and finished the year atop the team and league in nearly every offensive category. His 18 home runs set a new program best for a single season, where he also ranks first in school history in single-season extra-base hits (39) and single-season total bases (163).
Robertson leaves Davidson as a member of the winningest class in school history. His outstanding play helped catapult the Wildcats into a Cinderella run, where they captured the program's first title in a 115-year existence, and went on to win the Chapel Hill Regional in their first NCAA appearance.
The walk on will be heavily remembered in Davidson baseball history, when he fired a ball hit to shallow right field home in the 'Cats regional championship, allowing roommate and fellow senior Jake Sidwell to make the tag at the plate and prevent the tying run from scoring. He also drove in both runs in the win.
This past May, Robertson graduated Cum Laude with a degree in economics.
