NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After a down-to-the-wire last day of the 2017 regular season, Davidson baseball earned the six seed for the Atlantic 10 Tournament, being held in St. Louis, Mo., at the Billiken Sports Complex on the campus of Saint Louis University, beginning Wednesday, May 24. The official tournament bracket and seedings were announced by the league office Saturday evening.
The 'Cats, who just clinched their fourth consecutive postseason berth, will face the third-seeded St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Wednesday, May 24, at 10:00 a.m. CT. Davidson took the series from the Bonnies to open league play this year, winning the first two contests before dropping the finale in early March. St. Bonaventure ended the season with a 26-20 ledger, going 15-8 in A-10, and will be appearing in its first conference tournament since 2008. Davidson finished the year at 27-23 overall and 13-11 in the league.
Davidson made a historic run in the 2016 A-10 Tournament, becoming the first-ever No.6 seed to ever play in the championship game, and it was the first championship game in program history.
Regular-season champions VCU earned the first-round bye as the top seed, while No. 2 Rhode Island squares off against No.7 George Mason. George Washington and Saint Louis round out the tournament field as the four and five seeds, respectively.
There will be four games on Wednesday and Thursday, including at least one consolation bracket elimination game each day. Friday's semifinal day has three games, two of which are elimination games. The championship final will be played Saturday at noon on ASN. The if necessary game will take place immediately after the first final, if needed.
